About Me

“My teacher thought I was smarter than I was, so I was.” This quote was written on the white board of my fourth grade classroom. As an Early Childhood Educator, I often ponder this inspirational message. I personally believe that the expectations I institute in my future classroom will play a quintessential role in my students' success. If we as educators expect excellence from our students, excellence will come forth. This quote delivers the powerful message that we as teachers have the ability to reveal to our students that they are capable of accomplishing things they never imagined they could do. This statement has encouraged me throughout my educational career, and has assisted me in getting me where I am today.
My name is Sage Smith and I was born and raised in Murray, Utah. I will graduate with my degree in Early Childhood Education from Brigham Young University in December of 2017 with a 3.97 GPA. I am currently serving as the President of the Early Childhood Education Council. This leadership position has blessed me with the privilege to serve within the Early Childhood Education community.
I value my family relationships, I appreciate the time I spend with my family, especially in the great outdoors. I enjoy hiking, running, snowshoeing, four wheeling, fishing and camping. I am a certified yoga instructor and appreciate the balance and beauty yoga brings my daily life. I hope to incorporate the practice of yoga into my future classroom to create an environment where students feel a sense of peace. I love adventuring with my husband, he is my childhood sweetheart who I have known since the 1st grade.
I have had the opportunity to work with children and adults with disabilities in the Holland. I have also traveled to Germany. I worked as an employee at Brigham Young University as an Admissions/Financial Aid student assistant. I am currently working as a Teaching Assistant for three courses at BYU. These courses include: Planning and Assessment, Developmentally Appropriate Practice, and Primary Grade Seminar.
I have volunteered at local elementary schools in special education and primary grade classrooms. I also have had the opportunity to teach dance in these schools as well. These experiences impacted me in various ways and shaped what I value as an educator.
I am a compassionate, positive and dedicated individual. When I commit to a task (my education, career, students, relationships) I put forth my best effort to complete what is asked of me. I am responsible and driven. Although life can be challenging, I find a way to see the bright side of things. I am open minded and accepting of all people, cultures, beliefs and values. I will utilize and implement these characteristics in my future classroom by being continually informed and observant of my students individual needs. I will strive to be a positive, hard-working role model for my students.
What a remarkable calling being a teacher truly is, to help students realize their great worth and potential. This is the reason why I have committed to being an Early Childhood Educator.  I chose this profession because I am passionate about the success of young children. I am fascinated by children and their natural curiosity about the world that surrounds them. I believe that as educators it is our duty to harvest and cultivate this innate love that children have for learning through a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and engaging.
